H.E. Tesfamicael Gerahtu Biography

Tesfamicael Gerahtu has been the Ambassador for Eritrea to the United Kingdom and Ireland since 2007. He is also the Director General for the
Department of General Education within the Ministry of Education in Eritrea. A staunch advocate of the full sovereignty of his homeland , he
participated in the Eritrean National Liberation Struggle as a member of the Eritrean Peoples’ Liberation Front (EPLF). In May 1991, the EPLF took
control of Eritrea. A UN supervised referendum was held in April 1993 and over 99.99 % voted in favour of independence, on a turnout of over 90%.
He is vocally outspoken on the risks of foreign economic influence on the african continent and a champion for education and investment in Eritrea.
